FAQ

Is there anything I should do before I hire a handyman.

It is important to hire someone with experience in your project. You should also check references and ask past customers. You might want to add extra cash to cover unexpected costs. Also, you'll want to make sure he's insured and licensed.

Where do handymen come?

There are thousands, if not millions of handymen in America. However, most of them never started out as contractors. Most started as a tradesman, typically learning how to do things through apprenticeships. Because of this, many have great skills and vast knowledge that can be a huge asset to any company.

What should I choose: hourly or per-project?

It comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer paying by the hour to know exactly how much their handyman charges. Others prefer to pay for each completed project since they may have multiple jobs simultaneously. Both are fine.

Is it worth the extra cost of professional handyman work?

It all depends on the type project that you wish to have completed. If you need a complex construction project like an office renovation, then a professional handyman service would definitely be beneficial.

Which is simpler: Contracting or being a handyman.

Because you only need tools and yourself, being a handyman is more time-consuming than contracting. While contractors often rely on subcontractors, handymen must be able and willing to manage their own work schedules.

What's the difference between a handyman or a carpenter, you ask?

Handyman services can be provided for a wide range of tasks, such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, cabinet building, flooring, tiling and kitchen remodeling. Carpenters specialize in woodworking. They are skilled in building cabinets, doors and windows, as well as decks, roofs, fences and sheds.

What happens if a handyman causes damage and I am unsatisfied with his work?

Notify your contractor immediately if there is a problem with the project. It is a good idea to keep a detailed log and include photographs. Then contact your insurance company and file a claim.

How To

How do I replace a damaged window?

The most common home improvement task is to replace broken windows. This task involves repairing any damage to your glass. In this case, the repair work should only take around 30 minutes. If you don't know how to replace broken glass, you could cause more damage to your home. This article will give you some helpful tips for replacing broken windows.

Step one: Get rid of the old glass from the frame

First, take out all the screws that are holding the glass in place. Next, remove the lock at the top of the lower section of your window frame. Next, lift the window slightly up so that it is no longer attached the sill plate (the steel bar at the floor). Use a pry to loosen any remaining screws. Clean the panes thoroughly after they are taken out.

Second step: Clean and polish the new glass

Use a dry towel or paper towel to clean the glass. To remove any dirt or other debris from the glass' surface, spray it with water and rub alcohol.

Step 3: Install the new glass

Attach the window frames to the panes. Use a screwdriver to push the outermost edge of your pane down. Gently push your pane back into its opening. After moving to the next one, push it firmly against your previous one before you reattach it. Continue inserting the windows until they are all assembled. You can seal the gap between the panes with a silicone caulk gun.

Fourth Step: Repair the affected area

If you are installing new glass, be sure to inspect the area where the break occurred. This will help determine if further repairs are necessary. In the event that the hole is located near the corner of your window, place two small pieces on either side of it. These wooden blocks will be strong and can also act as spacers, keeping the glass in its place during expansion and contract of the weatherproofing.

Fiveth step: Seal the repair area

After the glass is replaced, apply silicone caulking to all edges of your window frame. This will create a good seal between the glass and the surrounding wallboard. You can purchase silicone caulking at hardware stores or online. It is important to match the color of the walls with silicone caulking.

Allow the caulking to cure overnight. You should not disturb the caulking after it has fully hardened. If you don't wait enough, the caulking could crack when you take it off.
