What should I choose: hourly or per-project?

It comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer paying by the hour to know exactly how much their handyman charges. Some prefer to pay each project individually, especially if they are working on multiple jobs simultaneously. Either way, it's fine.

How To

How do I replace a cracked window?

The most common home improvement task is to replace broken windows. Repairing damage to glass within your home is the task. Repairs should take about 30 minutes in this situation. You could end up causing more damage to your house if you don't know the best way to replace a damaged pane. This article contains some tips to help you replace a damaged window.

First, take the old glasses out of their frames

First, remove all screws that hold the glass in place. Next, remove the lock at the top of the lower section of your window frame. Next, move the window up slightly to remove it from the sill plate (the bar that runs below the floor). Finally, use a pry tool to carefully loosen the remaining screws until they pop out of their holes. Clean the panes thoroughly after they are taken out.

Second step: Clean your new glass

To remove dirt and grime from the glass' surface, use a paper towel or dry cloth. To remove any dirt or other debris from the glass' surface, spray it with water and rub alcohol.

Third Step: Reinstall new glass

Then, attach the window panes back into the frames. Use a screwdriver to push the outermost edge of your pane down. Gently push the pane into the opening of the frame. Next, move on to the next pane and press it against the frame before attaching it. Continue to insert the panes until you have assembled the whole window. You can seal the gap between the panes with a silicone caulk gun.

Fourth Step: Repair the affected area

Before installing the new glass, make sure to inspect the area around any cracks. In the event that the hole is located near the corner of your window, place two small pieces on either side of it. These wooden blocks will be strong and can also act as spacers, keeping the glass in its place during expansion and contract of the weatherproofing.

Fifth step: Seal the repaired area

After the glass is replaced, apply silicone caulking to all edges of your window frame. This will create a strong seal between glass and surrounding wallboard. Silicone caulking is available at hardware stores as well as online. Make sure you choose a color that is consistent with the wall's existing paint.

Finally, let the caulking cure overnight. After the caulking has dried completely, do not disturb it. You could crack the caulking if you wait too long.
